Franck Muller - The true story of grit and determination - a walk back into the streets of time
As Travis Bradberry famously once said - “Grit is that 'extra something' that separates the most successful people from the rest. It's the passion, perseverance, and stamina that we must channel in order to stick with our dreams until they become a reality."
If one had to sum up the story of Franck Muller watches in three words - it would be “grit and determination” Franck Muller, the world-famous watches, that are known to be one of the most complicated watches in the world, would never have come into existence if not for passion and perseverance that Franck Muller had, along with Vartan Sirmakes, the co-founder.
Franck had devoted his career to creating highly complicated watches, that would soon become exceptional timepieces, but it was in 1991, when he met Vartan Sirmakes, that the true challenge started. What was once a small in house volume production became the now famous prestigious brand of Franck Muller only because of the grit and determination the partners had.
Vartan’s passion for design and beautiful objects had led him to enter into the business of watchmaking with Pierre Ecoffey, who was a watch-case manufacturer, which was his first step into the watch industry. From then on the manufacturing of high-end luxury watches became his penultimate goal, and along with his guidance and vision with Franck Muller, the company soon grew to unimaginable heights.
There were initial teething troubles, of course, it wasn’t easy to produce the same kind of quality at a much larger scale, but never once did Franck Muller or Vartan Sirmakes decide to compromise on the quality of the timepieces produced, and in fact kept raising the bar in horology, every year.
It was all the way back in 2003 that Franck Muller introduced a completely new approach to the way time is treated. The series “Crazy Hours” was grounded on a new philosophy, completely independent to the established order. This extraordinarily brilliant model displays all the numerals in complete disorder, while still managing to keep the perfect time. All thanks to a completely jumping hour mechanism.
A leap four years ahead, and Franck Muller presented the true masterpiece, the Aeternitas Mega. Known now to everyone as the most complicated watch in the entire world, the Aeternitas Mega has 1483 components and comes with as many as 36 complications!
It truly has been a spectacular journey for Franck Muller - achieving new heights with every turn of the century, and the fact that they’ve earned the title - “Master of complications” is the very testament to this fact.
If there is one thing that we can truly take away from this story, it is the fact that nothing is impossible, once we put our mind and heart to it.
